Englishtown, NJ - Funnycar Reunion Event Wrap up

7/30/07:

Well last weekend the non-race in E-town can only be described as a wet mess on Sunday.

Our team arrived early Saturday morning, we set up our pit area, did a little maintenance on the cars got ready for Sunday’s race. While the weathed was questionable on both days saturday's weather was great.  One thing that we found while taking the 40 Willys out of the trailer, was a problem with the front brakes.  We were able to find and fix the problem in about an hour.  Our race team is really gelling together and we continue to get better at working together.  After the maintenance and setup work was done the team had a lot of fun hanging out at the wonderful raceway park facility.  We were amazed at how large this place was, we haven’t been to this track in a long time and they have made monumental improvements.  The raceway park facility has a ¼ mile drag strip, a 1/8 mile drag strip for Jr. dragsters, an enormous dirt motocross track, a road race style track for go-carts and pocket bikes, and a ¼ mile lake for jet hydro and water skiing.  It was great to drive the golf cart around on Saturday and just take in all of the other guys there to race, look at the other cars and relax for a bit.  We also spent some time on Saturday checking the weather for Sunday, while we knew there was a good chance of rain, we hoped it would miss us.

Sunday came around and we had a leisurely start to the morning, E-town has several noise ordinance restrictions about when racing can begun and how many days a year they can break the ordinance.  So we weren’t allowed to start the cars until 10am on Sunday.  This also explains why we couldn’t race on Saturday at all, it wasn’t a designated “noise day”.  So we got up and had some of Marvin’s famous waffles for breakfast, man they were good, I think I can still taste them.  We went through tech inspection and made our first time run.  All went well and both cars ran just like we wanted them too.  Then we got back to the pit and made some adjustments to the cars for our second time run and the black clouds moved in.  It was a very surreal moment as it seemed like the apocalypse was upon us.  We moved the cars tighter under the awnings and then the skies opened up and it poured rain like I have never seen.  The rain came so hard and so fast that in about 15 minutes we had 3 inches of water in our pit area.  The rain basically kept going for about an hour at this pace and didn’t really stop, it just let up a little.

So once it was let up enough we cut our losses and packed the cars up before we got caught in another downpour.  We hate to leave without racing, but sometimes that’s what happens.  On a good note we met lots of NETO members and had a great time.  We also brought Melaine’s dog nonnie with us to the track, everyone loved her and my dad called the weekend, “Nonnie’s Big Adventure”.

As always we had a great time at the track. Well that’s it for now, next stop is back up to Beaver Springs, PA for another NETO points meet.  See you all there.
